Anyone else seeing an uprise in racial names?

I'm presuming you're on the American servers beause of 'maryland' in your Avatar and maybe the racism is more prevalent there as I've not come across any racist or near-racist names. I don't see why the African theme would bring racism to the game - I mean my monk's appearance is Negroid and I haven't recieved any racist comments in her lifetime. I didn't see any racism against Asian people when Factions was released or during the pre-release weekend.
I think its worth noting that racism in Nightfall, being African-esque, will not be the developers'/company's fault because its just a place like anywhere else in the world and the game won't be insighting racist names/remarks. It will always be the individual's responsibility.
A little off topic: I was doing an Underworld farm-run during the week with a random SS/Sv necro that I came across and we were chatting away and upon noticing his poor English, I asked where he was from. He replied 'Britain' though I disputed that and he told me he was really from Israel. He explained that he lied because he'd had people leave his party, or he'd been kicked for being Israeli. That burns me.
Where I live racism is virtually non-existent so its hard to sympathize having not seen/experienced it myself although I know its never, ever justifiable.

yeah, there have been wicked rascist stuff all over these forums in the last few days. people probably don't realize the stuff they're saying and it's sometimes helpful to point things out to people with these things. sometimes they just act like idiots but it's worth the shot. that crap offends me and i'm nt black...just aware.

It just proves that a lot of people that are playing the game are idiots, it's nothing new.
Actually lets just go with "a lot of people are idiots" in general, it's not just in the game.

It would be abused. Same reason the /bug feature was removed. People seldom using it for the right reasons and always the wrong ones.

Speaking of "inappropriate" names, does anyone find the name Arse Man remotly offensive?
It was gonna be my necro's name but i've deleted him because I thought it was a better PvP char name.
I'm probobly off-topic here

In game rascism should not be tolerated any more than RL. Even if the things being said are not bannable, I still won't play with the person, but I haven't reported the offense.
We need to draw the line, racism will end only when good people decide not to tolerate it anymore. I think we all need to make our opinions known. Is there an email address to send offensive language to, other than support?

I am all for people wanting freedom to express themselves, but I cannot turn off offensive names. I can censor my chat, I can turn it off to avoid seeing it altogether, but if I run across an offensive name in PvP, it's there in my face. And yes, it does affect my gameplaying experience by immediately putting my nerves and/or temper on edge, or in the simplest case making me target the offender, when I should be targeting someone else. I report them all.

As much as i hate it, theres little that can be done to prevent racism. Whether it be typos, indirect comments, or simply alienation. And the saying: 'Where there's a will, there's a way' applies quite well here.
I can handle the casual racism, cause its not too hard to ignore. But what really gets to me is when good people are victimised because of something so trivial as origin.
I had a rank 7 guy help me and my guildmate earn some fame for r3, for a good hour or two out of his own goodness. Every so often he would post that he was recruiting players for his Vietnamese guild. Needless to say he got the usual response: 'OMG the vietcong are comming!1 arghh11'
It really is sad that people have to ruin a game that so many of us enjoy.

I Don't Think That Racism Is Rising. You'll See The Random Racist or Offensive Name Mayeb Only Once Every Few Days.

Not attempting to be rude or go offtopic, but, has anyone noticed the nonexistance of dark-skinned baddies? I mean to say that all of the human baddies (including Mursaat) are all white, except for Confessor Dorian (I think that's his name..) in the White Mantle and a few other Mantle baddies. And watch, as soon as ANet puts out Nightfall, assuming that it includes mainly black baddies, there'll be a huge racial outburst, and players of African descent will be going off on how ANet is racist, when we've been killing whites for two chapters now.
Back on topic, I just think that the whole racial thing in-game is a complete overstatement. Every part world has it's racial differences, and there are slurs for every known race, be it African, Asian, or Whites. People just need to learn that every person is different and that they can't have everything their way, it's just not how it works. And really, that's why the Devs included a skin tone option in the character creation menu.

I saw some 1 called "white boy" should he be reported to and get banned for this?? or is it the way you say it? or is it the meaning ppl give it?
If I name my character white chick is that racial to or not??
What about Blondi (the good, the bad and the ugly) and if some 1 ask we whay I do something wrong I could say : Hey I'm blond ?? does this make the name stupid or how I give a meaning to it?
I know it is stupid and ppl are not creative enough to come up with a nice name but does RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO not mean "black"?? and if it is such a "racial" thing so let them self stop calling each other like "yo my RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO or wazaaap my niga" (if you don't know what I mean just watch this thing called the TV and you know what I mean....MTV ftw).
If you don't like ppl that come up with stupid names just don't group up or waste your time to talk to them.

Arse Man, eh? Is that a reference to the Assman episode of Seinfeld? O.o

There's plenty of racism everywhere but I'd say there's less racism on GW then other games I've been in. Sometimes when I get tired of Guild Wars I sometimes boot up the ol' silly Halo PC and there's tons of racist comments there. And (alas) the few times I boot up Mr. War III I sometimes see some racist junk.
I have come across some racism every once and a while in GW though. Once I joined a PvP team for HA and when I got on their vent there was plenty of racism dripping off their conversation.
I went in with them on a run anyway because it had taken forever to find a group but we got pwned hard......by the zaishen. We did actually kill the zaishen but they didnt' get much farther than that. Don't wanna encourage stereotypes or anything...but racist people are usually prancing somewhere or another within the border of sheer stupidity.

I think it's just the themes of the games so far. Prophecies was sort of set in a Psuedo-Europe/oldskool castles n' dragons type place. The closest you got to different human races is the tanned Krytans. Factions was an "asian" theme. Nightfall is an African theme so we'll see some African and Egyptian-looking chars, both good and bad. They may even throw in a lil influence from the Middle East just for fun. If they throw in enough Middle East influence we may even get a Ski Dubai (Google it) in Nightfall.

i'd say more. many more.
and stormcrow, i don't think the mursaat can be white, they are like humanoid dragonflies, and most of the white mantle is very tan. and really only the stone summit are white, but they aren't human. anet makes baddies look like monsters for a reason. (i.e. afflicted, charr, dryders)
